Group Training in Pilates

Romana Kryzanowska was a force of nature. If you had the privilege to work with her, you never came with anything but your best. And many of her pearls of wisdom that she bestowed upon me were (and are) strictly observed. But it hasn't been until much more recently that I have had the chance to look at her teachings through the looking glass of my own experience and truly understand what she was really saying.

When I did my teacher training with Romana, she was a very vocal detractor of the current trend to dump a large number of people on reformers to do a Pilates workout. Her view was that you would not get all the benefits of Pilates on the apparatus if the teacher was lowering the standards of the workout so everyone could participate. And perhaps more importantly, safety would be compromised.

At Uncle Joe's, we honor that tradition. That's not to say that we don't have people doing group sessions. We have a lot of ongoing group sessions every day! The difference is that we take the time to make sure you end up in a group that works for you, not against you.  We take many factors into consideration when we put you in a group session...

  • your experience - someone who is just starting pilates would definitely be frustrated working in a group of highly skilled people (and vice versa!).
  • your health - someone who just had a baby, or knee surgery, or a stress fracture, no matter how experienced, isn't going to be able to just jump right back into their regular workout.
  • your goals - maybe you want to be a pilates superstar and learn all the 'super advanced' repetoire, or maybe you just want to look better in your swuimsuit. Either way, you're going to feel great after your workouts with us!
  • your availability - Do you need a 6am workout before work/school/car pool? Or an after work appointment that will burn away all the stress of the day? We can accomodate you.

These are the reasons you won't see group sessions on the class schedule. We want you to love Pilates as much as we do, so putting you in the right group will give us the assurance that you'll have an amazing workout experience.

Group sessions are a great way to do pilates without breaking the bank. But let's face it, Pilates doesn't work if you don't learn it and practice it correctly. And we definitely want  you to get results!
New to Pilates Mat? Or Maybe You Just Need a Refresher?

Projected start date . . . Tuesday, July 9th

Then the Mat Essentials worshop series is the place for you!

Mat Essentials consists of 10 classes (held twice a week for five weeks).

Your first class will consist of learning the 'language' of Pilates (scoop, C-curve, wrap, etc.) and cover the basic mat system.

But this is not a light workout! Oh, no.

You will quickly progress through to the intermediate system, learning new exercises and techniques every week to push your body to it's limits. You will learn why people can do Pilates for years and STILL be challenged by it's movements!

If you're in decent physical condition (that means no bad backs, bad knees, bad shoulders, bad hips) and have a disciplined mind, Pilates and the Mat Essentials will be a great fit for you. Sign up today for this rewarding workout experience!

We're planning the next session now and we've scheduled Tuesdays/Thursdays at 6:45pm on July 9th.

You Are What You Eat.

So You're Looking for Group Sessions . . .

If you're looking for group sessions on the Pilates apparatus, look no further!

If you already know the full, advanced mat, you can join any of our Tower Classes. You'll just need to attend the Tower Orientation class to familiarize yourself with safety and setup of the Tower. Then, you're ready to go!

If you'd like to work on the reformer, wunda chair, cadillac, guillotine, etcetera, let's talk....

If you're an absolute beginner, you'll need some private sessions to get you familiar with the method and the use of the apparatus. If you have some experience, just schedule an evaluation. Don't be nervous, it's just a private session to determine your skill level and the best group to put you with.

We're here to make sure you get the most out of your workouts with us. We know you want results and we're here to make sure you get them!
